This announcement is to let you know of the next big project in my life. I have officially started a blog about one of the things that I love most in this world – music. It’s called the Number One Project and I will be working on it over the next few months and years. You can click right on the name above or go to www.number1project.com/blog to read it. I will be making it more attractive, putting in graphics and providing a sign up form so you can subscribe to my newsletter if you want to. This is something that we don’t have to keep in the family. I hope you’ll tell your friends (maybe wait until I get the subscribe option installed). But I hope to turn this into something great, that the whole word can enjoy. Let me know what you think and, again, if you think I’m nuts, let me know. (I’ll still do it anyway, but it’s cool being nuts )

Love,

David and I went to see the movie “I Am Legend” at the local theater this past Monday. Barb didn’t think it was her kind of movie, so she didn’t go. She missed a masterpiece. David and I both thought it was awesome. It is a very tense, not for little kids movie that shows what might happen if you were the last living man on the face of the earth. Will Smith does a great job. I would recommend this movie to almost anyone. We enjoyed it very much. I would go so far as to say it was one of the best I have seen this year (2007). Go see it!!

I have talked to everyone, but I wanted to thank everyone again for the neat presents. I love them all. Thank you, everyone.
Now for other news. I’ve decided it’s time to write my life story. I’m sure I could sell at least 5 copies of it. What I want to do is write into this blog as I think of things for the next year or so and then pull it all together and produce a book (maybe for next year’s Christmas) that tells the story of Jim Hoag.

What do you think? Does this sound like a good idea? Please comment if you like the idea or if you think I’m nuts. (Kevin – you may want to consider unsubscribing unless you’re interested in my life story.)

Just so every knows, I am in this for the long haul. I will be building more blogs and giving the world more and more of my opinion. In some cases, I hope to actually make a little money from the efforts. If you’re reading this and still want to buy something for Christmas for Barb and I, I decided I also want the new Eagles album. It just came out a few weeks ago and has “How Long” on it as one of the tracks. That should be enough to find it.

So, in the spirit of growing and entrepreneurship, here is the link to my new blog. Enjoy.

Kim called me the other day to ask what I wanted for Christmas. Now, I don’t want to assume that anyone is going to get me a Christmas present, but in case you were thinking about it, I thought I would list a couple things I wouldn’t mind getting.

So, here is the start of my Christmas list for this year:

1. Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean, At World’s End – the one that just came out.

2. Movie: The Simpsons Movie – I think it comes out on the 18th.

3. Movie: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix – It comes out on the 11th.

4. Book: Dean Koontz “The Darkest Evening of the Year”

5. CD: Garth Brooks “The Ultimate Hits” – a 3 CD set that just came out a couple weeks ago.

It goes without saying that no one needs to get me anything. I love you all, present or not. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas.

If I think of anything else, I’ll add another post, but that’s enough for now.

Though everyone would be interested in this. I got my name in the paper – the Deseret News in Salt Lake City. A columnist, Lee Benson writes a column four times a week which we almost always read. A couple weeks ago, he had a contest in which he listed 10 lines from movies. We were supposed to write him back and give him the name of the movie the lines came from. The prize was your name in the paper. Here is an excerpt from his column of Monday, Nov 19 (the day of my surgery).

Discussing movie lines begets more

 By Lee Benson

First off, my thanks to the readers who made it to the bottom of last Monday’s column regarding the Hollywood writers strike and sent in e-mails correctly identifying the movie lines in question.

What a comfort it is to be surrounded by such intelligence.

The names of the winners: Tyler Leckington, Lisa Horne, Laurie Metcalf, Rachael Sheffield, Jim Hoag, Greg Stewart, Brian Barker, Courtney Henderson, Merrily Hill, Charlotte Pratt, Theron Millar, Andy and Lisa Sipple and Doug Robinson.

The correct answers: “What we have here is a failure to communicate” — “Cool Hand Luke.” “Are you talkin’ to me?” — “Taxi Driver.” “I’m as mad as h—, and I’m not going to take this anymore.” — “Network.” “You can’t handle the truth.” — “A Few Good Men.” “You’ve been ruining everybody’s lives and eating all our steak.” — “Napoleon Dynamite.” “You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya punk?” — “Dirty Harry.” “Go ahead, make my day.” — “Sudden Impact.” “Show me the money.” — “Jerry Maguire.” “Hasta la vista, baby.” — “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”

So you see, your old Dad’s still got it.

Barb and I went to Wendover, NV yesterday to see country legend George Jones. He has been singing country music since the 50’s. In fact, I think he is celebrating 50 years in show business. He’s getting old and not quite the spark he used to have . After all, he first hit the charts in 1955 with “Why, Baby, Why.” One of my all time favorite songs (in any genre) is “He Stopped Loving Her Today” It was said to be the greatest country song of all time, but that, of course, is a matter of opinion. It’s certainly my favorite. Anyway, it was a great concert. I really enjoyed it. We stayed overnight in Wendover and then drove to the airport this morning to drop Barb off for a trip to Seattle. She’s going to a knitting conference up there and then will stop in to see her sister who lives in Corvallis, Oregon. So, I am alone for the week. I will probably starve to death. More later…
